The relocation or installation of a safe is a lot more complicated than most people realize. There are a number of factors that need to be taken into account when performing either activity and the help of a professional is definitely recommended to accomplish the task safely.
Using improper techniques when installing or moving of a safe can result in damage to your safe, damage to your structure, and even potentially fatal injury. Safes are heavy, unwieldy, and they require special equipment and techniques to properly relocate or install. That’s where Broadway Lock And Key comes in!
For over 13 years, Broadway Lock And Key have been in the business of working with every aspect of security safes, from the proper installation of old safes to the safe removal of safes who are past their prime.
The reasons for moving a safe are fairly obvious but we feel should impress upon our customers the importance of properly bolting down your safe and the difference it can make for the security of your valuables and for your personal safety, as well.
One way that thieves can steal your valuables from your safe is by stealing the entire safe and removing it to a place where it can be cracked at their leisure. By bolting down your safe, you make it virtually impossible to do so, forcing the thieves to make the hard decision of choosing between cracking the safe on location or simply abandoning the notion of getting inside altogether.
Since cracking a safe is a time-consuming and difficult process, most thieves simply choose to give up.
We have the equipment and expertise to move just about any type of safe out there. Fire safes, fire-proof filing cabinets, jewelry safes, or just about any other type of safe that weighs 8000 pounds or less are all well within our capabilities.
It is recommended that your safe be moved to a location that has enough structural integrity to support the weight of the safe and has a concrete or brick floor that is suitable for secure bolting down. Generally, any ground-level location with a suitable floor will be no problem, but it’s best to consult with us first so we can assess the viability of a location. There are simply too many factors involved to responsibly give a blanket, catch-all answer to this question.
For multi-story relocation, please consult with our office to ascertain whether or not the new location is a suitable site for relocation.
Each safe relocation job has a number of variables that need to be considered. Every job requires a unique blend of equipment, manpower, and time considerations that need to be taken into account to generate an accurate quote. Here is what we will need to know ahead of time to properly provide a quote:
Knowing this will allow us to calculate the equipment and manpower required to achieve the goal. Moving a safe from one ground-level room to another is a completely different matter compared to moving a safe from the basement of a house to the ground level and will require different tools and man-hours to accomplish.
We will need to know the weight of the safe to be moved in order to calculate the equipment required to lift and move it. If you don’t know how much your safe weighs, you can simply tell us the name of the manufacturer and the model number.
We will need to know if there are any factors that will impede our ability to move the safe so we can make a plan to circumvent them. Gravel, stairs, uneven terrain, grass, or loose/ uneven pavement are just a few of the things we’d need to know about.
We’ll need to know if you plan to bolt the safe down in the new location so we can assess the viability of the new location and prepare the materials and tools needed to do so once the safe is in place.
These are the most important questions we’ll need to have answered but we may have others depending on your unique circumstances.
